Four shoplifting cases come before judge

Judge Bill McKenzie appointed attorney David Walker to represent a defendant charged with possession of a weapon by a felon during Batesville Municipal Court held Wednesday.
Christopher Whitten, 117 Hoskins, Batesville, told the judge the weapon wasn’t his.
Whitten is charged with simple assault by putting a woman in fear by pointing a gun at her. He’s also charged with possession of a weapon by a felon.

MDOC has a hold and his bond is $50,000.

Tommy Wortham, 200 Hwy. 51 South, Batesville, paid his fines of $632 in full prior to court for disorderly conduct-failure to comply.

Latambrise Mosley, 122 East Mill Rd., Sardis, had a warrant issued for failing to appear to answer charges for false information.

Takela Burnett, 107 MLK No. 4-H, Batesville, entered a guilty plea to domestic violence-simple assault and was fined $402. She also had old fines of $886 that were due since September 2011. Those fines were paid prior to court.

Ciera Williams, 1840 Espy  Dr., Clarksdale, entered a guilty plea to shoplifting (second offense). She was fined $1,131.

Williams was transferred to Southaven Police Department after her plea.

Latreka Wright, 411 Short St., Senatobia, entered a not guilty plea to shoplifting from Burkes. A trial was set for January 29.

Darneshia Mitchell, 2701 Hammond Hill, Senatobia, had a warrant issued after failing to appear to answer a shoplifting charge.

Tywanna Webb, 416 Cox St., Senatobia, entered a not guilty plea to shoplifting from Burkes. A trial was set for January 29.

Codie L. Jones, 7150 Country Oak, Southaven, was to return with an attorney announcement for DUI-refusal, public profanity and no proof of insurance.

Jones told the judge she could not afford a lawyer and would be representing herself.
A trial was set for February 5.

Reginald Chapman, 170 Greenbriar, Courtland, entered the city’s work release program for 59 days in lieu of paying $3,376 in old fines that have been due since July 2013.

Jakessa Cole, 149 Victory Rd., Batesville, was sentenced to 35 days in jail after failing to pay old fines of $1,621 that have been due since April 2013.

Rodney Harris, 221-B Henry Harris, Courtland, had a trial set for February 5 for simple possession of marijuana, resisting arrest and trespassing. He also has  old fines of $717.
After a plea agreement Steven Wood, 150 Jones Ext., Courtland, had charges for simple possession of marijuana dropped after agreeing to attend Narcotics Anonymous classes.
Brad A. Neth, 122 Dell St., Batesville, had a domestic violence-simple assault case amended to simple assault after a plea agreement.
