Snow in March?
On March 21-22, 1968 a snowstorm blew into North Mississippi with accumulations up to umpteen inches according to those who survived to exaggerate the story. Question is: Do you think we will experience snowfall with accumulation this March?


 
Green Wave halts losing skid

The ongoing winter break has not been much of a vacation for the North Delta Green Wave boys basketball team.

Having lost all three games in the Magnolia Heights Holiday Classic last week, the Green Wave found themselves on the verge of getting swept again this weekend in the Kirk tournament.
After losing to Pillow and Oak Hill, North Delta halted its five- game skid Saturday with a 50-37 victory over Winston Academy to close out the three-day event.

Sam Copeland and Will Hartzell paced North Delta (3-12) with 13 and 11 points each as the Greenies knocked down seven three-pointers while connecting on 18 of 39 shots from the floor. Hartzell pulled down nine rebounds to go along with four steals while Copeland added two steals and three boards.

North Delta took a 23-12 advantage at  halftime and led by much as 18 points in the second half. Tyler Beard dished out a game-high six assists and nine points while Dennis King and Ridge Simmerman supplied six points each. Bailey Sullivant chipped in with five points and three assists.

Pillow- 70 North Delta-26

The Wave opened up the tournament Thursday on the short end on the stick by getting throttled at the hands of the Class AAA Mustangs.

North Delta fell behind 18-5 after one quarter of play and 32-10 at intermission as the ‘Stangs put things on cruise control in the second half. Will Jennings led all scorers with 17 points while Steve Pannell added 10 points.

Simmerman garnered 10 points to lead North Delta in scoring while Hartzell pulled down 10 rebounds and eight points. Copeland chipped in with five points and Avery Rowland contributed with three points. Having not figured into the scoring, Beard added five steals and two assists.
Oak Hill- 42 North Delta-31

The Green Wave bounced back from the Pillow loss with a strong showing against Oak Hill Friday but was to no avail as the Raiders held on to the victory. North Delta trailed 21-12 at halftime cut the margin to seven points twice in the fourth quarter but could not get any closer as Drew Riley sank four free throws in the final two minutes whichproved to be the difference maker.

Sullivant led the Wave with 13 points while Hartzell followed with eight points and seven rebounds. Copeland led the defensive charge with nine rebounds and two blocked shots to go with four points. Simmerman and Beard rounded out the scoring with two points each.
North Delta returns to action today as the travel to Lee Academy for a District 1-AA matchup before hosting Delta Academy Thursday
