BATESVILLE–Claiborne Leon Collier Sr., 73, died Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Wells Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from noon until service time. Wells Funeral Home has charge.

Collier, born Jan. 30, 1940,  to the late Oscar David and Marie Winstead Collier, served as a Lance Corporal in the United States Marines. He was a member of North Batesville Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Brayn Griffin and Hannah Collier.

Survivors include: his wife, Barbara Bramlett Collier of Batesville; two daughters, Deborah Anne Holland of Batesville and Donna Griffin of Coldwater; two sons, Clay Collier and David Collier, both of Sardis; one sister, Maifred Killn; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

COLDWATER–Daisy Mae Evans, 81, died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at her residence.
Services will be held Saturday at noon at Cistern Hill M.B. Church in Coldwater. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. at Felix Cauthen Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cistern Hill Cemetery in Como.

Evans attended Northwest Community College.

Survivors include: three daughters, Donna R. Rumph of Royal Oak, Mich., Aza D. Booze of Hearvest, Ala. and Clare E. Wilson of Hope Mills, N.C.; six sons, Eugene Evans of Senatobia, Willie R. Evans and Billy Evans, both of Como and Larry Evans of San Antonio, Texas, Aaron Evans of Sardis and Percy Evins of Coldwater; two brothers, Percy Moody of Younston, Ohio and Walter Moody of Meadville, Pa.; 17 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

SARDIS–Aretha Burdette Robertson, 82, died Sunday, December 29, 2013, at Baptist North Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were held Saturday at Heart Generation Church in Sardis. Felix Cauthen Funeral Home had charge.

Robertson was a farmer.

Survivors include: two daughters, Doris Leverson of Sardis and Gladys Wilbourn of Como; three sons, Robert Wilbourn of Sardis, David Wilbourn of Syracuse, N.Y. and Anthony Robertson of Waterloo, Iowa; three sisters, Izola Heard of Como, Thessloniam Webster of Sardis and Ruthie Mae Hemingway of Memphis; one brother, Earnest Burdette of Detroit; 16 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE–Lou Shurden Savage, 68, died Friday, January 3, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were held Sunday at First United Methodist Church in Batesville. Burial was in Magnolia Cemetery. John Howell Jr. officiated. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Lou was born December 26, 1945, one of eight children, in Starkville to the late Emory Otha and Homa Lee Phillips Shurden. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Batesville.  Lou grew up in West Point and graduated from West Point High School in 1964. She worked for Job Corps in Batesville for many years and eventually retired this year from Northwest Mississippi Community College as the Administrative Assistant to Dr. Jack Butts.
Survivors include: two sons, Paul Clinton Savage, Jr. (Donna), Michael Shurden Savage (Dr. Cynthia) all of Batesville; four sisters, Sandra Shurden Savage of Southaven, Linda Shurden Hammond (Dr. Abner) of Baton Rouge, La., Vicki Shurden Hill (Roger) of Columbus, Lisa Shurden of Germantown, Tenn.; brother, Otha Lee Shurden of Eupora and five grandchildren, Tripp and Savannah Savage, Baylor Savage, Eli and Ford Wilson.  She is also survived by companion, Jamie Howell of Pope.  Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Kelly Shurden and Michael Feddy Shurden.
