Wright apprehended in Pike County

Michael Wright, who has been on the run for weeks for murder, was apprehended in McComb (Pike County) at 10:30 this morning. The United States Marshall's office informed the Panola County Sheriff's department of the apprehension.

According to a report in The Clarion-Ledger, Wright had been staying at a shelter run by a McComb church for several days, McComb INterim Police Chief Scott McKenzie told The Ledger. “A lady there thought she recognized him, so she told a deputy who she thought worked for the police department. The deputy formerly worked here,” McKenzie said.

That deputy put the wheels into motion for both agencies to act together to go to a home where Wright and a few other men were doing yard work for the church, McKenzie said. Wright offered no resistance and was transported to the Pike County jail, the Ledger wrote.

Wright had been on the run since October 8, accused of murder and abduction in Hinds County. He was out on bail for a 2012 murder in Hinds County. Wright was accused of abducting his current girlfriend, Sharice Latham, who was located October 11 in Utica near where the  murder victim was identified as 55-year-old Jerry Brent, Latham’s uncle.

A hearing is set for March 4 in Panola County.

More information as this story unfolds will be found in Tuesday's edition of The Panolian.
