Benefit is Saturday for melanoma patient

By Billy Davis

An auction and bake sale are planned for Saturday at Sardis Lake Baptist Church to benefit Sammy White, who is fighting melanoma. The benefit starts at 6 p.m.

Sammy, 32, was diagnosed with Stage 3B melanoma in 2012 and is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments three times a week. The treatments will last through the year, said his wife, Cassie.

The family travels to Memphis to the West Clinic and to Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, to see a melanoma specialist.

Sammy is a financial officer at One Main Financial in Oxford. Cassie is a graphic design artist at The Panolian. They have two children, Caleb, 10, and Abby, 7.

The benefit will include spaghetti plates for $5 and music by Delisa McGregory Brown. Auction items include an Ole Miss football helmet, Peters Pottery, a Mississippi State-autographed baseball, a youth turkey hunt, and more.
