Five positions, six candidates, in Pope
Six aldermen candidates will vie for five positions in the Town of Pope’s upcoming General Election to be held on June 4 at the Town Hall in Pope.
The lone mayoral candidate, Jamie W. Howell Sr., has no opponent in the race as Friday was the qualifying deadline.
Current mayor Ricky Briscoe is not seeking re-election to the post.
Incumbent aldermen Kenneth Powell and W. T. Rikard will be joined by Tommy Copeland, Ann M. Mills, Jennifer O’Brien and John Robert Throgmorton as candidates with voters allowed to vote for five of the six.
Those top vote getters will be declared winners as all Pope candidates run on an independent ticket to save the cost of primary election.
Pope has an approximate population of 250.
