JACKSON—Gov. Phil Bryant today issued a Writ of Election setting March 26, 2013, as the special election date to fill the seat left vacant by the death of Rep. Joe C. Gardner.
Gardner died at his home in Panola County on Monday, Feb. 4. He represented House District 11 that includes a large swath of Panola County and the southeast corner of Tate County.
The qualifying deadline for candidates is Feb. 25, 2013.
If no candidate receives a majority of votes cast in the special election, a runoff election will be held April 16, 2013.
