Student on bus struck by stray bullet

A second grader was being transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis Monday afternoon after sustaining a gunshot to the back while riding a South Panola school bus.
The stray gunshot came through a side window of the bus, authorities said at the scene.
The incident occurred on Central Academy Road, near Cline Road.
Authorities were investigating the shooting and patrolling the area late Monday.
About 15 students were on the bus, number 071, and school officials notified their parents about the incident.
Witnesses at the scene said the child was walking around after the incident, suggesting the injury is not critical.
The child was transported by helicopter to the Memphis hospital.
