GRENADA– Wanda Joy Flint, 53, formerly of Batesville, died February 23, 2011, at her residence.

Memorial services were Monday at Unity Baptist Church in Duck Hill. Rev. Fletcher Morman officiated.

Flint, born Oct. 25, 1957, in Shaw, to the late Roy Milton and Pearline Woods Flint, was a member of Way of Life Ministries in Grenada. She was an LPN and in nursing for many years and was in construction work. She ended her working career at Batesville Casket.

Survivors include: one son, Adam Birdsong of Grenada; two daughters, Tonya Birdsong Mullen and Joanne Huskey, both of Grenada; four sisters, Linda Seawright, Barbara Gail Trusty, Sandy Melton and Rhonda Sherwood, all of Grenada and six grandchildren.

Carlton Holmes Jr.

SARDIS–Carlton Holmes Jr., 45, died Thursday, February 17, 2011, at his residence.

Services were Friday at Liberty Hill Methodist Church in Como. Rev. Daniel Cooperwood Jr. officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.

Holmes, born Jan. 23, 1966, to Carlton Holmes and Ella Holmes, of Chicago, attended Chicago Vocational School and was a member of Prairie Avenue Baptist Church in Chicago.

Survivors along with his parents include: one son, Rico Lark of Horn Lake; one sister, Lisa Holmes and Anthony Ouinn Holmes, all of Chicago.

Jean Clark Hartzell Meacham

BATESVILLE– Jean Clark Hartzell Meacham, 86, wife of Dr. Marshall Page Meacham, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011, at Tri-Lakes Medical Center.

Services were held Monday at the First United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Interment was in Magnolia Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Mrs. Meacham was born March 24, 1924 in Memphis, to the late Mary Louise Johnson and Gordon Clark Hartzell. She graduated from Central High School in Memphis and attended Southwestern College. Post WWII, the Meacham family moved from Tennessee to Batesville, where Dr. M.P. Meacham opened a dental office. In the summer of 1950, Jean contracted polio and stayed in Isolation Hospital in Memphis for many months. Marking medical history during the historic polio outbreak, on September 29, 1950, her daughter Marsha was born naturally and healthy in a classroom at the University of Tennessee Medical School.

Mrs. Meacham was very active in the community, serving on various committees at her church and as a member of the Adult Bible Class, United Methodist Women, and Explorers Bible Study.

Mrs. Meacham was also a life member of Kappa Delta Sorority; charter, active and life member of the Batesville Garden Club; charter member of the Yellow Jackets – Hospital Auxillary. She was also a volunteer/sponsor for the Cub Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of America, Batesville PTA, Batesville Sub-Deb Cotillion, and Friends of the Library.

She enjoyed reading, playing bridge and games, working puzzles, needlework, cooking and arranging flowers.

For many decades, she met with her girl friends for Friday ‘lunch bunch’ and monthly supper club with ‘Doc’ and four other couples for over 50 years.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Marshall Page Meacham; two daughters, Carolyn M. Ferrell and her husband, Hal of Batesville and Marsha M. Petry and her husband, Jeff of Indianapolis, Ind.; son, Robert H. Meacham and his wife, Carolyn of Senatobia; six grandchildren, David Meacham, Joann M. Davis, Jeana F. Burchfield, Natalie F. Wright, Jana G. Buckler, Jared Petry and ten great-grandchildren.

Jarrelle B. Steffanini

BATESVILLE–Jarrelle B. Steffanini, 78, died Thursday, February 24, 2011, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in her home town of Warner Robins, Ga.

Mrs. Steffanini, born March 20, 1932, to the late Ollie Mott Baker and Daisy V. Camp Baker, in Sycamore, Ga., was a civil servant at Robins Air Force Base and a contracting officer. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Aldo V. Steffanini.

Survivors include: her children, Aldo R. and Sherrill Steffanini of Perry, Ga., Darrel V. and Tonia Steffanini of Pensacola, Fla., Tina and Neil Rigole of Macon, Ga. and Serena and Ronnie Morrow of Batesville; ten grandchildren, William Blair, Christian Steffanini, Jordan Steffanini, Lisa Maddux, Dixie Wingler, Emily Rigole, Zachary Rigole, Vinnie Steffanini, Anna Steffanini and Abigail Rigole and one great-grandchild, Sophia Maddux.

James “Jimmy” Russell

FORT WORTH–James “Jimmy” Russell, 83, formerly of Sardis, died Friday, February 25, 2011.

Memorial services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Fort Worth. Rev. Karl Travis will officiate. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Thompson’s Harveson and Cole Funeral Home.

Russell, born Aug. 12, 1927, to the late Mr. and Mrs. O.L. Russell, graduated from Sardis High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in Anacostia Naval Station in Washington, D.C. He graduated from Denver University with a bachelor’s degree in business. He married his highschool sweetheart, Lee, in 1945, and moved to Jackson, where he worked for an accounting firm while earning his CPA. In 1959 he moved to Fort Worth and was controller for Mrs. Baird’s Bakery. He then became vice president of finance for Kimbell Inc. He bought Fort Worth Bolt and Tool in 1976. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Maj-jo Sunday School Class. He was a member of Ridglea Country Club, the Petroleum Club of Fort Worth, co-founder of the Ten Spoke Investment Club.

Survivors include: his wife, of 66 years, Lee Sheffield Russell; one son, David Russell of Fort Worth; one daughter, Lee Anne Russell Hendry of San Antonio; one sister, Betty Sue Jones of Atlanta and two grandchildren.
