Junior high students follow lead of TV show
By Emily Williams
Members of the Batesville Junior High Choir are busy practicing for their upcoming Batesville Idol competition to be held in the auditorium of the Batesville Junior High April 6 at 6:30 p.m.
The event will raise funds for the choir program, directed by Natalie Bottoms. This is Bottoms’ first year at Batesville Junior High.
“By having one large event we can raise money during a single night and those attending will not only support our choir financially but also have a lot of fun,” Bottoms said.
Students auditioned just before their spring break.
“Students prepared a song of their choice and sang it a cappella,” said Bottoms.
Batesville Idol will mimic American Idol with three teachers enacting the roles of Simon, Paula and Randy, the judges from the popular TV show.
Teachers Artee Smith, Jessica Watkins and Andrew Tillman have volunteered their time to judge.
The part of TV host Ryan Seacrest will be played by Johnathan Weaver.
There will be 17 acts and commercials by different classes.
“Students will have the opportunity to rehearse their song at school the week prior to Batesville Idol on stage in the auditorium. Participants will also be expected to rehearse on their own at home,” Bottoms added.
“So many talented students auditioned and I wish we could have allowed everyone to perform but we had to keep the show to a reasonable length,” she said.
Admission is $2 and everyone’s welcome to enjoy the entertainment.
“I think Batesville Idol has the potential to be a great success. By the hard work and generosity of fellow teachers, students, and administrators, I know the show will be fun and full of surprises! My hope is for the school, community, and parents come and support and enjoy the great show!”
