By Rita Howell

Batesville Magazine, a new publication by The Panolian, is now being distributed. Copies arrived from the printer on Thursday.

The 60-page magazine contains photographs and stories by Panolian staff members and advertisements designed by the newspaper’s graphics staff. The publication is designed to appeal to local residents, visitors and newcomers alike.

Artist Ralph Bledsoe, wood craftsman Jay Johnson, Coach Willis Wright and World War II hero Waverly Wray are all featured in the publication. A story by John Howell Sr. recalls the history of the town and the role played by the railroad in its location.

Panolian graphic designer and special projects manager Madison Kilgore edited the magazine. Publication was delayed when the New Orleans printing company contracted for the job was shut down by Hurricane Gustav.
