Truck fixed; simple assault charge dropped by affiant

In Wednesday’s session of Batesville Municipal Court Judge Jay Westfaul dismissed a simple assault case where Demetrius Williams of 205 W. King St., Batesville, was charged with assaulting Gregdricus Pride.
“I’m going to dismiss this case for lack of prosecution,” said Judge Westfaul after Pride dropped the charges against Williams.
“We still stay in the same house. We’ve done got the truck fixed up. I still love him,” said Williams.
Williams has old fines from December of 2013 in the amount of $1,396 which he claimed to have paid on during the initial hearing on March 8.
He was earlier ordered by Judge William McKenzie to bring proof of his payment to court, but was unable to do so.
“It costs to put people in jail. I’m on your side, but I want this cleared up by Friday at 3p.m.” said Judge Westfaul.
Jessica Martin of 214 Hays St., Batesville, pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle with no driver’s license. The loud music charge was remanded to the files for six months. “If you get another ticket, these tickets come back,” said Martin’s Attorney, Jeff Padgett.
Jaylen Lee of 2074 B Morrow Rd., Courtland, pleaded guilty to simple possession of marijuana. Lee has 30 days to pay the $443 fine.
Joshua K. Ford of 500-C Armstrong, Batesville, pleaded guilty to providing false information, no driver’s license and running a stop sign. Ford has 30 days to pay the $1,134 fine.
Tony R. Rudd of 3820 Eureka Rd., Batesville, pleaded not guilty to shoplifting from Wal-Mart. A trial date has been set for April 12.
Charles E. Rudd of 3946 Eureka Rd., Batesville, pleaded guilty to shoplifting from Wal-Mart. Rudd has been alotted 30 days to pay the $1,146 fine.
Donneshia Ervin of 300 S. Lehlberg, Columbus, pleaded not guilty to shoplifting from Sonic. The case will go to trial on April 12.
Terry Callicut of 2700 Highway 51 N., Sardis, failed to appear to answer charges of contempt of court for failing to pay old fines from December of 2012. Callicutt was released by Sheriff Dennis Darby who was notified of Callicutt’s failure to appear. According to court records, Callicut still owes $212 from the old fines.
Karen Hipp of 251 Providence Rd., Grenada was charged with DUI first and improper parking. The case is to be continued on April 26.
