Sardis Aprilfest to include perfect weather, nice cars and good food

By Rupert Howell
The 9th annual Sardis Aprilfest Open Car Show this weekend is more than a car show according to Cris and Debbie Fletcher who serve as the Sardis Chamber of Commerce’s president and secretary respectively or interchangeably.
But with a 139 cars registered last year, the vehicles will definitely be the center of attention and take up most of Main Street when they arrive.
Weather is predicted to be perfect according to current forecast with a high of 75 degrees.
Food is always a big draw and Ms. Fletcher says vendors will be serving Philly Steak sandwiches, Polish sausage, ice cream corn dogs, hand-cut French fries, pork skins and funnel cakes.
Cris Fletcher noted that CenterPoint Energy will be located on the north end of Main Street and serving free hot dogs.
Arts and Crafts will also be spread among those assembled, according to Ms. Fletcher, who also warned that parking on Main Street and the Methodist Church property will be prohibited as that is where participating vehicles will be on display.
Over 75 trophies will be awarded according to the Fletchers, who noted an additional 20 plaques sponsored by local businesses and officials will be presented to auto owners whose cars catch the sponsors’ favor.
Co-sponsor of the event is Mississippi Delta Street Rods who has managed shows in the area for decades and whose members know how to draw a crowd and  put on a show. The event is open to all makes of car, truck and motorcycle. Entry fee is $20 and door prizes will also be presented.
Registration is from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m., judging from 1-3p.m. and awards are scheduled for 3 p.m.
Ms. Fletcher warns all comers, to park on Back Street or the Baptist Church or a side street as Main Street will be “covered up” with entries.
