Cougars go 1-1 against Hawks in district play

The Cougars faced Holly Springs Tuesday night and went 1-1 against the Hawks in the most exciting fashion.
The girls game ended in overtime with North Panola winning 53-51.
In the girls game, the Lady Cougars jumped out on the Lady Hawks going up by 18 at the half.
In the third quarter the Lady Cougars scored only seven points and the Lady Hawks went on a run to begin their comeback.
In the fourth quarter the Lady Hawks attempted to put the Lady Cougars away but they would not go down without a fight.
The Cougars only needed eight points to stay alive and Kenya Edwards hit the shot to send the game into overtime.
In the overtime period, Edwards kept the game going, hitting the game winning shot.
Leading the Lady Cougars was Jasmine Edwards with 16 points. Other scorers were Edwards with 13; QuiTonya Webster with eight; Leah Shorty with seven; Johncieyca Wilbourn with five and Paige Ward with two points.
Holly Springs boys 75, NP 71
The boys game was just as exciting but they lost 75-71.
The Cougars went back and forth with the Hawks but the game did not get intense until the fourth quarter.
The Cougars scored 23 fourth quarter points but it was not enough as the game came down to the wire.
In the final minute the Cougars fell down three and needed a last shot to win.
With six seconds on the clock the Cougars missed their opportunity to force overtime, falling 75-71.
Leading the Cougars was Jamarcus Jones with 25. Other scorers were Vennis Mills with 16; Kenneth Jefferson with 11; Darrell Young with nine; Mario Fenner with eight; Jarvis Remix with four and Jordan Dandridge with two points.
The Cougars will take on Water Valley Friday in a road district game.
