Reba Faith Haggard DeVeny

Reba Faith Haggard DeVeny, 83, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2016, at her residence in Batesville, Mississippi.  Funeral services were Friday, November 11, 2016, in the Nowell Massey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tommy Snyder officiating.  Graveside services and interment were Sunday, November 13, 2016,  at Forest Memorial Cemetery in Batesville.
Reba was born December 10, 1932, to Walter and Alice Rogers Haggard in Winston County.  In 1998, she retired after working 23 years in the business and admissions office at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
Reba is survived by her daughter, Propst Pittman of Batesville; her son, Daniel Dues DeVeny of Bay Minette, Alabama; two sisters, Patty Sullivan Jones and husband, D. P., of Mobile, Alabama; and Sara Hattie Ballard and husband, Mack, of Grenada, Mississippi; and three sisters-in-law, Betty Lynn Kelley Haggard of Noxapater, Mississippi; Carolyn Haggard also of Noxapater; and Nancy Peterson Haggard of Clinton, Mississippi.  One of her greatest joys was being “Grandmother/Guyee” to her four grandchildren: Tyler Faith Pittman, Mary Lathan Pittman, Daniel Dues DeVeny II, and Evan Alexandra DeVeny; and her great-grandson, Brett DeVeny.  Also left to mourn her passing are a host of nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Billy Louis Haggard; Roger Metts Haggard; and Jimmy Gale Haggard.
Memorial contributions in honor of Ms. DeVeny may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tribute Program, P. O. Box 1000 Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.

James Elbert Gordon, Jr., age 55, died Thursday, November 3, 2016 at his home in Batesville. He was born August 27, 1961 in Memphis, to James Elbert Gordon, Sr. and the late Virginia Louise Donaldson Gordon.
Graveside services were held Monday, November 7, at Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Batesville.
Survivors include: his wife of 32 years, Susan McCowen Gordon of Batesville; two daughters, Renae Gordon Johnson (Barrett) and Jayme Ellen Gordon all of Batesville; his father, James Elbert Gordon, Sr. of Water Valley; and his brother, John Garland Gordon of Water Valley.

Wylie Gene Gowen

Wylie “Gene” Gowen, age 75, passed away November 8, 2016 at his home near Batesville.
A memorial graveside service was held Friday, November 11, at McIvor Cemetery near Batesville.
Gowen was born August 2, 1941,  in Sunnyvale, Texas, to the late John Lymuel and Audrey Juanita Morrison Gowen. He was a retired director of sales for the former Mini Systems, Inc. in Sardis, and was a honorably discharged U.S. Navy veteran.

Clarence Green

SENATOBIA––Clarence Green, 76, died Saturday, October 29, 2016, at North Delta Hospice.
Services were Saturday, November 5 at Independent-Tyro M.B. Church in Senatobia. Rev. Brandon Price officiated. Infinity Funeral Home had charge.
Green, born July 10, 1940, in Senatobia, to the late Willie Green Jr. and Mattie Faulkner, graduated from Fredonia High School. He was a member of Independent-Tyro M.B. Church in Senatobia and was a general laborer.

John Thomas Hentz

COURTLAND–John Thomas “J. T.” Hentz died Saturday, November 5, 2016 at North Delta Hospice in Southaven.
Memorial services were Saturday, November 12 at at Batesville Junior High School. Pastor Nehemiah Martin officiated. Interment was at Spring Hill Pope Cemetery.
Hentz was born September 6, 1935 to the late John Thomas Hentz Sr. and Artessia Leland Hentz. Hentz was a retired railroad worker for CN Railroad and a member of Spring Hill Pope M.B. Church. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #12 Rock Hill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Valeria Cauthen Hentz.
Survivors include: six sons, Claude Cox of Courtland. Fredrick Hentz and Harry Joe Hentz of Courtland, Robert Hentz and Johnny Robertson of Batesville, Willie James Lee of Sardis; one daughter, Bettye Lee Griffin of Milwaukee; one brother, James W. Hentz of Chicago; one sister, Johnnie Lee Warren of Batesville; 25 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.

Queen Ester Hurt

SARDIS––Queen Ester Hurt, 83, died Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Merit Health in Batesville.
Services were Saturday at Henderson Funeral Home in Sardis. Burial was in Harmonia Cemetery in Sardis. Henderson Funeral Home had charge.
Hurt, born April 23, 1933, in Sardis, to the late Wesley Edwards and Hattie Lee Edwards.

Clayton Harvey “Perk” Perkins

Clayton Harvey “Perk” Perkins, age 84, passed away Wednesday morning, November 9, 2016, at his home near Sardis.
Graveside services were Friday at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville. Wells Funeral Home had charge.
Clayton was born May 3, 1932, to the late Clifton Perkins and Elsie Lewis Perkins in Sardis.
Perkins retired from the Mississippi Department of Transportation in Batesville where he worked for many years in the maintenance department.

Mattie Ree Thomas

BATESVILLE––Mattie Ree Thomas, 100, died Monday, November 7, 2016, at her residence.
Services were Sunday at Viney Creek M.B. Church in Sardis. Pastor Ozine Thomas officiated. Cooley’s Mortuary had charge.
Thomas, born May 29, 1916, in Batesville, to the late Stanford Thomas and Callie Watson, was a child care worker and a member of Liberty Hill M.B. Church.
