Three hundred or more, many of them veterans, attended the City of Batesville’s Veteran’s Day Celebration at Veterans’ Memorial Park on Batesville’s Downtown Square Friday morning where they were addressed by Mississippi Appellate Court Judge Jim Greenlee.
The native Batesvillian reminded the crowd of how great it was to be an American, where we have a right to disagree. In his emotional address, Greenlee singled out teenagers who were present in the capacity of delivering patriotic music with band or to present colors with the JROTC unit, telling them it was for them the Veterans being honored had served and warned them not to take the sacrifice lightly.
The South Panola High School Band and JROTC unit presented patriotic music and readings having just previously performed at their school’s Veterans Day program.
Batesville Fire Department had draped a large American flag from their ladder truck and Batesville Exchangites passed out small American flags to all who attended. Mayor Jerry Autrey who welcomed the crowd and introduced the speaker also acknowledged City Clerk Susan Berryhill for coordinating the tribute.
