Sheriff’s Report: Contraband retrieved at site of safety check

During a September 16 checkpoint Deputy Mark Allen observed a maroon Chevy Tahoe slowing down short of the check point and tossing something from the vehicle, according to the report.
Deputy Allen asked the driver for his license. The driver said his license was suspended and he gave Deputy Allen an identification card.
Another deputy who also saw the incident found a clear plastic bag with a white powder inside and a dollar bill with white powder inside it, along with a five dollar bill, according to the report.
The driver and passenger were placed into custody, Upon searching the vehicle Deputy Allen noticed the handle of a revolver under the passenger’s seat. He ran the serial numbers and but there was no record.
The Panola County Sheriff’s office received 29 other reports which required service from Panola County Deputies from September 30 to October 7.
September 30
• Deputy Mike Davis spoke to a Eureka Road resident regarding a protection order. The individual reported she was being threatened and was advised to go sign papers on the suspect for simple assault by verbal threats.
• Main Street, Courtland resident reported to Deputy Steven McLarty she noticed scratch marks on the driver side door of her vehicle.
According to the report, the ex-girlfriend of the resident’s boyfriend apparently scratched the car door with a razor blade.
• The Panola County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a vehicle in a ditch one to two miles from Highway 315 in Sardis.
Deputy Davis found a white Toyota with no tag in the ditch. According to the report, no one was in the vehicle and the vehicle appeared to have no damage.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen out of Sardis. The Sardis Police Department was notified of the incident.
October 1
Deputy George Renfroe spoke to a Eureka Road resident who reported her son was causing a disturbance.
Upon arrival Deputy Renfroe observed the suspect in the yard with an aluminum baseball bat ready to hit the resident. The suspect then began walking toward Deputy Renfroe’s truck, according to the report.
“The suspect was greeted with my taser in hand as I advised the suspect to drop the bat,” Deputy Renfroe stated in the report. The suspect complied and was taken into custody.
According to the report, a black handled butcher knife was taken from the suspect’s  right front pocket. The suspect was intoxicated and very irritated and attempted to get out of Deputy Renfroe’s patrol unit by kicking the window, according to the report.
Deputy Renfroe sprayed the suspect with pepper spray in an attempt to calm the suspect down. The suspect was transported to the Panola County Jail.
• Deputy Emily Griffin responded to Sardis Lake Drive in reference to a disturbance between a father and son.
According to the report, the resident stated he put his son in a head lock to keep him from hitting him when the son struck the resident in the ribs.
The resident stated his son calmed down and went back outside the residence.
• Deputy Griffin responded to a disturbance on Blackjack Road where an individual stated she was being followed.
According to the report, the individual stated the suspect struck her vehicle and caused her to drive off the roadway. She pulled into a parking lot.
She said the suspect continued driving around the parking lot and was parked in the parking lot upon Deputy Griffin’s arrival.
• Sardis Lake Drive residents reported to Deputy Allen a 19-year-old was giving alcohol to their 15-year-old sons and they were very intoxicated.
Deputy Allen spoke to the 19-year-old suspect who stated his father took him to a liquor store and bought a pint of strawberry vodka and beer for him, according to the report.
The suspect said he shared the alcohol with the juveniles and the mothers came to his residence and found them drunk.
Deputy Allen advised the suspect the liquor store had surveillance cameras and he would ask to see them. The mothers of the juveniles requested to file charges and were advised they could pursue charges in Sardis Justice Court.
October 2
• Deputy Renfroe responded to Turner Road where a blue jeep had caught fire and burned. According to the report, a witness stated he saw the car parked there the Friday before and assumed it belonged to a hunter. Investigator Terry Smith was advised of the incident.
Later the owner stated he was at the location Thursday to make deer food plots when his vehicle had mechanical problems and wouldn’t run. He returned to the location to pull the vehicle and found it missing.
• Deputy Maurice Market was dispatched to the Batesville Police Department  in reference to an assault and spoke to a victim who reported her husband was threatening to do bodily harm to her.
• Hadorn Road resident reported an assault to Deputy Market.
The resident stated some girls came onto her property and jumped on her daughter. The dispute was apparently over a boy that another girl was talking to.
The resident also stated the suspects blocked the road so her daughter could not pass and continue to her job.
• Deputy Crawford responded to Nash Road to speak to a resident regarding a mower. According to the report, the resident stated the suspect arrived at his residence and asked to repair his mower.
The resident stated he allowed the suspect to take his mower, trailer and $100. The suspect returned a week later wanting another $100 for parts and the resident stated he just wanted his mower back but the suspect refused to return the property claiming the resident still owes him money, according to the report.
October 3
• Investigator Bryan Arnold responded to a domestic disturbance where a resident reported her husband came home from work and physically assaulted her.
According to the report, there has been a long history of abuse.
• Atkins Road resident reported an individual to Deputy Josh Griffin about phone harassment.
The resident stated the suspect is harassing her and her 17-year-old daughter and also keyed her car, according to the report.
• Eureka Road resident reported to Investigator Danny Beavers an individual keeps threatening her causing her to fear for her life.
• Ramsey’s Circle, Sardis resident reported the suspect has been asked on many occasions not to come to her work, but the suspect continues.
According to the report, the suspect was once in a relationship with the resident’s son.
• Lieutenant Willie Harris took a report of an individual trespassing onto a Brown Road, Pope residence.
The resident stated she was at home and heard a noise and went to check to see where the noise was coming from and saw a vehicle pulling out of the driveway.
According to the report, the resident’s son was in the driveway and he stated an individual came out of the home and claimed he was fixing the plumbing.
The resident stated she had no idea the subject was in her house.
October 6
• Highway 315 South, Water Valley resident reported to Deputy Renfroe someone stole a red Coleman mini bike from her property.
•Garson Street resident reported to Deputy Market he and an individual were gambling in his back yard when the individual pulled a gun on him and stole $2,090 from him.
According to the report, the individual’s sister returned the money and no charges were filed.
• Plum Point Road, resident reported to Deputy Allen her 20-year-old daughter was at home when a white Chevy pickup with two people in it was in their yard, running around the yard.
Before arriving, Deputy Allen was notified the scene was secure. According to the report, Deputy Allen was called back to the residence where the resident found a fence cut.
Deputy Allen stated no sign of anyone was found and no contact was made with the white Chevy.
• Deputy Renfroe responded to Black Jack Road where the resident stated he was outside speaking to his neighbor when he heard a loud shot and his dog yelp.
According to the report, the dog was still on his chain in the owner’s yard when it was shot.
Investigator Edward Dickson was notified of the incident and advised Deputy Renfroe to transport the neighbor to the Sheriff’s office, test for G.S.R. and then transport the neighboar back to his residence.
• Lieutenant Harris spoke to a Highway 51 North resident who reported his grandson was making threats towards him.
According to the report, the grandson came to his resident after having an argument with another family member.
The resident stated his grandson came onto his property to fight the family member who was staying on his property and when the resident told the him to leave the suspect pulled a gun on the resident.
October 7
• Investigator Beavers took a report from a Memphis resident who reported an individual was sending her threatening text messages.
The individual was advised to file a report with Memphis Police Department.

• Vehicle swerved to miss a deer on Henderson Road. An injury was reported.
• Vehicle backed into another vehicle on Mary Woods Road.
• Vehicle lost control on Union Road. An injury was reported.
October 5
• Vehicle hit a deer on Terza Road.
Juvenile Offense Report
On October 2 a 17-year-old was accused for an assault on Atkins Street.
