SP Volleyball earns playoff berth

SP Volleyball earns playoff berth

The South Panola Volleyball teams battled Greenville at home Tuesday night with both teams taking the win on Senior night and Volley for the Cure Night.
South Panola Seniors Symone Shegog, Rachel Towles,  Emma Devetta, a foreign exchange student from Italty as well as Malin Ekroth, a foreign exchange student from Sweden.
The volley for the cure night also included a $100 gas gift card raffle with proceeds going to the American Cancer Association.
The Lady Tiger varsity team swept away Greenville with a 3-0 win. South Panola bested Greenville in the first set 25-17 with Junior Destiny Rudd serving up 11 points including three aces as well as the final four points. The Lady Tigers came out ahead in the second set 25-17. Greenville offered the Lady Tigers multiple points due to penalties. Greenville struggled to stay out of the net. Brinley Lock served eight points in the second set, including an ace.
South Panola took the final set sweeping Greenville 25-18. Rachel Towles made a save to keep the volley alive which resulted in a point for the Lady Tigers. Rudd and Kia Coleman served an ace to Greenville.
Kira Coleman managed to serve ten points in two serves including the final seven points. The Lady Tigers took the set and the match as a Greenville player hit the ball out.
The Lady Tiger junior varsity team won their match defeating Greenville in two of three sets. Both teams remained neck in neck  for the first set with a five point serve by Rudd allowing South Panola to take the lead. A five point serve by Anna Adams ensured the Lady Tigers the win as Greenville served the final point for the Lady Tigers into the net.
The second match began with a long volley as both teams battled for the first point which ultimately went to South Panola followed by an ace by Taddera Patton.
The Lady Tigers kept the lead until the second rotation of servers and the second server for Greenville served up 11 points includeing an ace.
South Panola fought to take back the lead but asunable to do so, falling in the second set 25-19. In the final set both teams battled for the lead, each craving the win. South Panola would take off with the lead, but Greenville always managed to catch up.
Greenville tied the score and managed to gain an extra point for the lead, 15-14.
The Lady Tigers came back with rally scoring and refused to allow Greenville the win. With the score tied, 15-15, Greenville managed another point, but had to win by two.
The Lady Tigers were never going to let that happen and took off scoring three points served by Locke. The Lady Tigers won the match 2-1.
The Lady Tigers are headed to the playoffs. “We are third in our district behind Tueplo and Hernando after beating Columbus. The top three go to the playoffs.” said Coach Lisa Lewis.
