Upcoming play to focus on serious issues, benefit Safe Shelter

By Rupert Howell
A stage play, “These 4 Walls,” that focuses on domestic violence, wasted teen talent, parental neglect, drug abuse and attempted rape, will be presented at Batesville Civic Center Friday, November 4 at 7 p.m.
The production is being sponsored by Batesville Safe Shelter, Bim Bam Burgers, Sardis Baptist Association, and Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi and is the product of Brandon McMillon of McMillon Productions who wrote and produced the play.
The play is being presented to bring awareness to those problem areas with speakers specializing in those areas to offer hope and help.
A news release provided by Dr. Jake Julian who is heading the Safe Shelter movement and is chaplain at Batesville’s Merit Health facility states Panola County continues to experience situations involving all these issues.
Julian said this week that he gets from four to seven calls weekly from agencies and churches looking for a location to place persons affected by domestic violence.
He asked McMillon to write and produce this play and now asks the community to come together to raise funds to put this event together and to support those sponsors.
“Our goal is to fund this event and promote it so that we can sell a minimum of 1,500 tickets at $20 each and donate the proceeds to build the Batesville Safe Shelter and help the Boys and Girls Club in Batesville,” the news release states
Tickets are available at all Bim Bam Burgers or online at www.batesvilleciviccenter-ms.com. For more information call 662.934.2121.
