Prudie Meredith Garton Moss

Prudie Meredith Garton Moss, 96, died Wednesday, August 31, 2016, at Starkville Manor Nursing Home in Starkville. She was the widow of the late Byron Maddox “Tootsie” Moss.
Funeral services were held Monday at Wells Funeral Home. Interment followed at Magnolia Cemetery in Batesville. Mr. Michael Bates and Mr. Robert Rawson officiated.
Prudie Meredith Garton Moss born March 7, 1920, to the late Kyle and Effie Crockett Meredith in Independence. Prudie was an All-State basketball player in Tennessee during high school for Whitehaven and went on to play for Hinds Jr. College on scholarship. During her lifetime she worked for the Bank of Batesville and was the bookkeeper for the Panola County Co-op. Prudie was a member of the Batesville Church of Christ.
She leaves one son, Marty Walter Garton, Starkville; three grandchildren, Byron Maurice Garton of Vicksburg, Christopher Somers Garton of Maben, and Timothy Walter Garton of Brandon; and five great grandchildren. She leaves behind one brother, John Calvin Meredith of Kansas City, Mo., and one sister Mildred Meredith Hayek of Cordova, Tenn..
Preceded in death were her husbands, Marty Walter Garton of Millville NJ, and Byron “Tootsie” Moss of Batesville. Also preceded in death are two brothers, Doris Kyle Meredith of Memphis and Walter Lee Meredith of Hernando MS, and three sisters Olive Meredith McCullum of Collinsville TN, Christel Meredith Haynes of Olive Branch, and Evelyn Meredith Hall of Whitehaven.

Trema’J Mahliq Ellis

BATESVILLE––Trema’J Mahliq Ellis, was stillborn Thursday, August 29, 2016, at Merit Health Hospital.
Services were held Sunday, September 4, at Eddie Robinson Funeral Home. Larry Key officiated. Burial was held in Springhill Church Cemetery in Pope. Eddie Robinson Funeral Home of Batesville had charge.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Henry Fox.
Survivors include: his mother, Stacey Fox of Batesville and father, Terrance Ellis Sr. of Courtland; two sisters, Taleyia Sayles of Memphis and Mariyah Fox of Batesville; two brothers, Terrance Ellis Jr. and T’Meriyun Fox, both of Batesville and his grandparents, Eva Ellis Jones and Curtis Jones of Courtland, Annie Joiner of Batesville and James Milton Wheeler of Bruce.
