All Batesville city workers to be paid on new schedule

Employees of the City of Batesville will begin receiving paychecks every other week following a decision by the mayor and aldermen.

“We’ve had several requests from different superintendents and several ladies in the office,” City Clerk Susan Berryhill told city officials during her report Tuesday.

Aldermen voted unanimously to adopt the every-other-week pay period, though implementation may not begin immediately. “We’re not going to say: ‘end of the month;’ you can give them 60 to 90 days … everybody’s finances are different,” Berryhill continued.

“The money’s the same?” Alderman Stan Harrison asked.

“The money’s the same,” Berryhill replied.

The change will eliminate the patchwork of pay periods with which the city’s payroll clerk presently contends.

“The way it is now, she has some weekly, she has some bi-monthly, and she has some monthly.” Berryhill said. “You’re doing payroll all the time.”

In other business, Berryhill asked aldermen to approve sale of two vehicles declared surplus by the police department.

Aldermen approved the sale of one to Quitman County and one to the City of Sardis, for $2,500 each.
