Jeremy Tordell Lee

COURTLAND––Jeremy Tordell Lee, 26, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at his residence.

Services will be held Saturday, July 26 at 11 a.m. at Spring Hill Pope M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Stephen P. Walker will officiate. Visitation will be held Friday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. at Cooley’s Mortuary who is handling arrangements. 

Lee, born July 4, 1988, in Coahoma County, to Robert Lee and Francine Rudd Lee of Courtland, graduated from South Panola High School. He was a machine operator at Insituform Technologies, a veteran of the United States Army and a member of Spring Hill M.B. Church. 

Survivors, along with his parents, include: his wife, Keyana Kuykendoll Lee of Batesville; two sons, Jaydon Lee and Taylor Lee; one daughter, Trinity Lee, all of Batesville and three sisters, Nikeyia Pollard, Quintella Denise Lee and LaSara Cierra Lee, all of Courtland; grandmother Ada Mae Lee of Courtland.

Charles L. Martin

POPE––Charles L. Martin, age 76, died Friday, July 18, 2014, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi.

Services were held Sunday at Whosoever Church of God in Pope with Rev. Matt Hill officiating. Interment was in Crowder Cemetery. Wells Funeral Home had charge.

Charles Martin was born to the late Archie Homer and Clara Austin Martin on October 7, 1937, in Marks. Mr. Martin was a farmer and member of Whosoever Church of God.

Survivors include: his wife of 52 years, Nellie Fisk Martin; four daughters, Regina Redwine of Big Creek, Linda Rikard and Malissa Hester, both of Pope, and Rita Russell of Batesville; two sons, Luke Thomas Martin of Pope and Eugene Martin of Crowder; one sister, Virginia Earby of Selma, Ala; one brother, Vernon Martin of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

BATESVILLE–– Ray Elisha Slaughter Jr., 67, died Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Yalobusha General Hospital in Water Valley.

Full military honor funeral services were held Thursday at Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Roger Richards presiding. Burial was in the veteran’s section of Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery. 

Slaughter, born Nov. 22, 1946, to the late Irene Dees and Ray E. Slaughter Sr., in Charleston, was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served during the Vietnam Era and earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Combat Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. He was a member of the Pope Baptist Church. Ray retired after 25 years of production work for Insituform Technologies. 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Ann Slaughter.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Cook Slaughter of Batesville; one daughter, Joy Slaughter of Baton Rouge, La.; two sons, Andy Ray Slaughter of Cordova, Tenn. and Jerry Slaughter of Batesville; one step-daughter, Christy Goodwin Hudson of Batesville; two step-sons, Ronnie Goodwin of Batesville and Kevin Goodwin of Senatobia; two sisters, Donna Walls of Batesville and Gail Weeks of Courtland; one brother, Mike Slaughter of Oxford; and 10 grandchildren.
