Participants at last year’s Denim and Pearls Walk raised $1,800 for the American Cancer Society.

Tailgaters invited to decorate and picnic with pink theme

Participants in the Sixth Annual Denim and Pearls Breast Cancer Awareness Walk-a-thon October 13 are invited to get into the spirit of the event by packing a picnic lunch and planning a pink tailgate to enjoy after the walk along the trails at Trussell Park.

Registration for the walk begins at 9 a.m., and walkers will start their trek at 9:30. Tailgaters are encouraged to have their displays set up early, and can begin at 8 a.m. in the designated area.

After the walk, at 11 a.m., picnicking will begin.

Prizes will be awarded for the Prettiest Pink Picnic, according to organizer Carol Knight, who emphasized that this is a family event.

Knight, a 12-year cancer survivor, founded Denim and Pearls to raise awareness for breast cancer and to raise funds for research and treatment. Last year the event raised $1,800 for the American Cancer Society.
